The Winter Solstice
The Winter Solstice is an important traditional festival in China. It usually comes around December 22nd. On this day, the daytime is the shortest and the nighttime is the longest.
In my hometown, eating dumplings on the Winter Solstice is a custom. In the morning, my mother and I went to the supermarket to buy dumplings materials, including eggs and leek. After buying the food back home, we would make dumplings together. It's a cozy and enjoyable way to celebrate the festival.
The Winter Solstice is not only a solar term but also a traditional folk festival. More than 2500 years ago, Chinese people detected this day by measuring the sun. It is a day that symbolizes the beginning of winter and the end of the sun's longest day.
In addition to eating dumplings, people may also engage in other activities to celebrate the Winter Solstice, such as gathering with family, visiting relatives, and enjoying the cold weather.
Overall, the Winter Solstice is a significant and enjoyable festival in China, filled with traditions and customs that bring people together.
